The seasons are changing and as we all prep for the colder weather we also get the feeling of dread knowing flu season is starting. With two small children, a teenager and a business to run, it’s constantly flu season for me! Needless to say, you lovely lot keep me very busy every day with orders and experimenting on new products so getting ill is not something I have time for.
Whenever I’m ill, my skin breaks out, I get dry chapped lips, my nose gets sore and my scalp gets flaky. Naturally, this tends to happen when I am at my busiest on the run up to Christmas! So this year I thought I would share some of my top tips for surviving flu season with you all.
First Things First Wellness
It is no secret that keeping your body healthy starts from the inside you can use all the creams, lotions and potions on your skin from the outside but for the best results you have to take care of yourself by nourishing your body internally too. You can do this by eating extra healthy lots of green vegetables and fruits, home made smoothies and soups are a great way to get those into your daily routine, but most importantly by drinking this little hidden gem will help keep you built up against those nasty germs. This is an incredible healing drink originating from India. The Main ingredient Turmeric is well known for it’s healing properties around the world already and when you add other healing elements like cinnamon, ginger and saffron you know you’ve got a winner. Thankfully it’s pretty tasty too!
I love this drink because it is an alternative to shop bought remedies full of chemicals not only that it is dairy free too. Those of you who know me, know that If I can help it I will always try and find a way to make everything allergy friendly so I thought I’d share the recipe with you and anyone else who could do with a health boost to fight off the flu.
Flu Fighting Liquid Gold
1 x tsp cinnamon
pinch of black pepper
pinch of nutmeg
Pinch of ginger
2 x teaspoons of turmeric
2 x strands of saffron
2 cups of oat milk
Add all the spices together on the hob and once they are aromatic, add the oat milk and slowly bring to the boil. You can add a Sweetener of choice like Agave nectar or Honey. The kids both had a cup of it too and loved it. Really soothing when you feel horrible. It’s just what everyone needs to get back on the mend and with no hidden nasties.
Soothing Scrubs & Bubble Baths
Now we have the inside taken care of lets start on the outside, there is nothing I enjoy more than a nice warm bubble bath! With the new bubble bath range you will have everything you need to enjoy just that, fill your bath, pop in your favourite bath bomb or a good squeeze of one of our luxurious bubble baths then sit back and relax! Pair this up with one of our whipped soaps or scrubs to wash away those aches, pains, soothe patches of dry skin and just make you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the perfect combo.
Clear Those Airways
I know not everyone has a bath which is why I also have some Menthol steamers available! I swear by these in the winter when your feeling stuffy and your head feels heavy there is no better way to get those airways opened up and feeling fresh!
Kiss Goodbye To Chapped Lips
We haven’t quite got to the chilly winter mornings yet but it has definitely started to cool down and while I’m fighting to keep the flu at bay, my lips start suffering on the school run! They get so sore and chapped even more so when I’m ill. Our range of lip balms are a life saver. I have already started putting this on every morning, especially before leaving the house. It prevents my lips from getting dry and sore and keeps them hydrated throughout the day so far not a chapped lip in sight and long may it last.
Last But Not Least – Raw Coconut
Raw coconut oil is that one thing that has many wonderful uses and one of those is massaging it into the scalp and hair. It keeps your scalp nice and healthy. If your feeling run down and lacking energy pack some of this on and leave it to work its magic, once your feeling a bit better rinse it out, even a few days later and your hair will be in gorgeous condition. I think it’s so important to pamper yourself when you’re feeling rundown. It’s not just about how you feel on the surface level. Sometimes making yourself feel better inside with a nice pamper session is just as important.
I hope that all of you stay Flu free this year but if not come back and try some of these tried and tested methods and let me know how you get on! Stay well and cosy through out the winter months!
